In "My African Reading List", established authors talk about authors and books from the African continent and diaspora that are on their reading list.
As part of Litteraturhusets podcast, we have released six special episodes about African literature. The series is called "My African Reading List" and is an English-language podcast series where estabelished authors visit The House of Literature to talk about their own work, and the authors and books from the African continent and diaspora that are on their reading list.

Arinze Ifeakandu
Arinze Ifeakandu is a literary shooting star from Nigeria, with a characteristic, lyrical prose, who has been advocated by authors such as Damon Galgut og Colm Tóibín. God’s Children Are Little Broken Things from 2022 is his literary debut, winning him several literary prizes, including the prestigious Dylan Thomas Prize. In addition to the short story collection, Ifeakandu has published several shorter pieces of both fiction and non-fiction, and is currently working on his first novel.

Koleka Putuma
South African Koleka Putuma is an author, a playwright, an editor, amentor, and she has become a cult figure in the activist poetry community. In a direct style that pulls no punches, she writes about homophobia and transphobia, gender and racism, while each line pulses with compassion and love. Putuma entered the literary world with a bang in 2017, with her debut collection Collective Amnesia, which explores South Africa’s historic racism and its consequences, both institutionally and within the culture. Since then, she has published two more critically acclaimed poetry collections.

Soukaina Habiballah
Soukaina Habiballah is from Morocco, and the author of four award-winning poetry collections, a short story collection, a novel and a play, Nini Ya Momo.

Wole Talabi
Wole Talabi is a Nigerian science fiction author. He is best known for his short stories, most of them collected in the collections Incomplete Solutions and Convergence Problems. His latest novel Shigidi and the Brass Head of Obalufon won the prestigious Nommo award for best novel. Talabi has also edited the anthologies Africanfuturism and Mothersound, both central publications in African fantasy and science fiction.

Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi
Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi is a Ugandan British writer, known for her debut novel Kintu, an epic family saga spanning from the 18th century until our time.

Igoni Barrett:
Nigerian author Igoni Barrett has made a mark with his authorship, being known for his uncompromising writing: he does not adapt to a typical Western audience. In this episode he shares his favorite books and authors.

Leila Aboulela:
The Sudan born author Leila Aboulela has published a number of award winning novels, short story collections and plays. Among them, the powerfull River Spirit, the first novel in a planned series about Scotland's role in the Biritsh colonization of the Sudan. The award winning South African author Masande Ntshanga is known for his genre-bending writing, mixing poetry with prose, science fiction with historical events. These authors and books are on his reading list.

Maaza Mengiste:
Ethiopian american Maaza Mengiste has emphasized that she is particularly interested in exploring women's role in the resistance movement in Ethiopias recent history. In this episode she shares with us her favorite authors and books.

Nadifa Mohamed:

Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor started working on her debut novel Dust in 2007, the same year as the presidential election in the authors country of origin, Kenya, triggered bloody riots.
