The seminar Back to LGB is about how and why new political organizations for lesbians, gays and bisexuals have emerged in many countries in the recent years. These organizations appear to oppose the growing political bureaucracy and activism of a broader identity politics built on wide labels like “queer” and LGBTIQ+.
The main speaker at the seminar is Ronan McCrea, Professor of Constitutional and European Law at University College London (UCL). He has written the book The End of the Gay Rights Revolution: How Hubris and Overreach Threaten Gay Freedom (2025) that warns against a possible backlash against the gay rights that have been won in the West. In his talk he will elaborate on why he thinks that the gay rights movement is ill-equipped to meet this challenge.
Ronan McCrea’s talk is followed by contributions from two political organizations for lesbians, gays and bisexuals that are part of the federation LGB International.
- Kate Barker is CEO in LGB Alliance, that was founded in 2019. She will share experiences from the first years of the organization.
- Tor Arne Dahl is chair of LHB Norge, who is the host of the seminar. LHB Norge was founded in the summer of 2025.
Finally, there will be a panel discussion among the participants.
The ticket price is 100 kroner that can be paid using the link. The event will also be live streamed.
The seminar has received project money from The Fritt Ord Foundation.
