In the process of filming The Privacy of Wounds, director Dalia Al-Kury faced the trauma of the three participants, and was confronted with several ethical dilemmas. Psychologist Steffen Rostock Svendsen has worked as a trauma therapist for years, and was present throughout the production of Reconstructing Utøya.
What do such reconstructions of experiences, memories and trauma entail, for those involved and for the audience? What can they teach us about how to deal with some of humanity’s most atrocious actions?
