This evening will be a rare chance to get up-to-date scientific assessments of possible paranormal experiences during the use of psychoactive substances. The traditional use of psychoactive plants as a sacred element in spiritual and magical rituals has been going on for several millennia. The use of these powerful psychoactive substances has long been reported to induce paranormal phenomena such as clairvoyance, telepathy and precognition (foresight, premonitions). They have traditionally been used by indigenous groups worldwide, both for these purposes and other effects, e.g. spiritual experiences. But are these events paranormal or not? How strong is the scientific support that they are genuine phenomena? This is reviewed here for the first time in several decades, and includes e.g. results from a series of controlled experiments led by the speaker.
