On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the birth of Luís Vaz de Camões, Maria João Lopo de Carvalho will take us on her memorable journey.
While writing her biographical novel "Até que o amor me mate – As mulheres de Camões" (Until love kills me – The women of Camões), she felt an adventurous urge to follow in his footsteps between Lisbon and Macao (thus covering 17 years of the life of the greatest poet in Portuguese literature). For two months – from August to October 2015 – she travelled alone to all the ports Camões visited, carrying only one book – "Os Lusíadas".
Maria João Lopo de Carvalho sailed around the Cape of Good Hope, then to Mozambique, Mombasa, Malindi, Ormuz, Diu, Daman, Goa, Cochin, Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Malacca, the China Sea, the Moluccas and Macao.
She always felt "accompanied" by her "prince of poets". What Maria João Lopo de Carvalho will share with us is therefore a photo reportage from this memorable and exciting journey. Although she travelled halfway around the world, she never left Portugal, nor the very Portuguese blue sea.
