When Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, Eran Masas from Kiryat Ata got into his car and drove 200 kilometers south — without orders, on his own initiative. At the moshav of Patish, he took care of a large group of traumatized survivors from the Nova festival, calmed them down, and got them transported to safety.
When he finally reached the festival grounds themselves, there was no one left to save. The video of him walking among the dead, shouting "Is anyone here alive?" — without receiving an answer — went around the world.
For hours, Masas carried the dead away from the area. The first was a young woman he knows only as "the woman in green." He apologized to her as he lifted her. "I thought of my own daughters," he has said.
At the event, Masas shares his personal story from one of the darkest days in Israel's history, and ample time will be set aside for questions and conversation.
